Artistic Edge is a company set up to promote the ability of artists to convert their creative skills and ideas into profitable business ventures, through skills development and market access opportunities.

It was formed at the beginning of 2007 by a group of 15 South Devon-based artists as a result of their collective experience as part of a local government-run business training programme aimed at the arts community. To find out more about our origins and the founder members click here.

The Ethos

The aim is to continue the work started by Market Makers (a recent local government-run training programme), that of helping artists improve their ability to promote their work through development of a range of skills, and opportunities to increase their presence in the marketplace (such as through trade or retail shows and online sales).

It is hoped that by working together as a group, members of Artistic Edge will be able to overcome some of the many problems faced by any self-employed person who works alone, improving opportunities for information, skills and resources sharing, as well as making it possible to launch initiatives that would be too expensive and time-consuming for individuals to carry out on their own. In short, Artistic Edge will become an artists' mutual support network, run by artists for artists. To read Artistic Edge's aims and objectives in full, click here.

Events
To achieve these goals, Artistic Edge takes part in a range of arts events as well as running a series of its own, the former including trade and retail shows, the latter consisting of such events as photography workshops, talks and site visits. Furthermore, members are able to use this website as a window onto the world, through the Members Profile pages: to view these click here

Becoming a Member
We are always keen to attract new members as it is felt that Artistic Edge will have strength in numbers. Membership has the following benefits:

1) Access to our programme of training events and site visits;
2) Group booking (and hence cheaper rates) for joint stands at trade and retail shows, as well as for certain services (eg product photography);
3) Preferential rates for joining a new online shopping mall, generating access to the global market;
4) Group advertising and promotion to the art-buying public, thereby getting greater exposure for a lower cost than is possible for an individual;
5) Entry to a network of like-minded artists able and willing to share their skills and resources, as well as to provide mutual support whenever needed;
6) A page promoting your work on this website, with a link to your own website and/or online shop.
